“Health isn’t just about nutrition. It is about learning to live.” – Patricia Compton
I have been wanting to write this blog for quite a while because let’s face it, what happens to your body in your 40’s is not quite what happens in your 20’s! Do you have a vitality checklist? As in do you know what takes your performance to the next level? You should! Here are a few lessons I have learned in the last year as I have really made this a priority! (And make sure to scroll down for your own checklist!) When this becomes a top priority, you will show up better in every area of your life!
- Nutrition can make or break your energy levels. With two young kids a full-time job and full time coaching business, when go off the rails with the nutrition my body feels it. I can’t survive on skipping meals and sugary treats. My body SHUTS down. So I had to change my mindset and tell myself if I want to do all the things and feel good at the end of the day, I need to fuel my body right. You need the energy and Vitality to keep you going
- Start strong out the gate! You all know I love a good morning routine, but what if you stacked your day so you got all your nutritional goodness before you got too stressed to skip it? I drink almost half of my water for the day before I leave for work AND make sure to have a nourishing meal or smoothie(not processed) with fruits, protein and vegetables for breakfast. That way I have the energy and power to stay on track the rest of the day.
- Know your Trigger foods and habits. For me as an emotional eater, finding an intuitive eating plan was what I needed…because otherwise, I would find ways to cheat. I did a 21-day detox that eliminated certain foods from my diet and then added them back in slowly so I could see how I reacted. For me, sugar and caffeine are how I deal with stress and yogurt, cheese (dairy) and alcohol are foods that trigger me to eat more!
- Track it. Part 2 of this “trigger food” identification is hormone changes are for real! And they play a HUGE impact in what I crave, how I am feeling, energy levels etc. I use the app FLO to track my hormone levels and then use this daily tracker to track my emotional state, to-do’s, gratitude etc. Through the intuitive eating program I follow it is important to note how you feel each day with what you are eating and how your energy levels are. Then you can adjust.
These might sound simple, but a few small changes can really help your vitality! And energy! As an extra bonus, I created a vitality checklist for you!
