Back in the day multi-tasking used to be all the rage, but now studies have proven that single-tasking is actually more efficient. You can use this PDF and tutorial and learn how to block your day so you can be more productive and actually get stuff done!
Time blocking or block scheduling is actually a tip I have used for years in my 9-5 job and helps me be able to knock things out in a short amount of time in between meetings. I have learned to apply this same technique to my personal life and coaching business so I am not constantly walking around with my phone and trying to run a business and a family at the same time (as in you can’t answer client emails and make dinner and deal with kindergartners all at once! Time blocking has built-in accountability and allows me to feel productive instead of just busy!
- It minimizes false urgency. And what I mean by that every time your email dings do you freak out? Like AH, I have to get that? Imagine if you could just turn our phone off for a while knowing that you have time blocked out to deal with it later?
- It focuses your attention. So you will actually get more done faster. It also encourages you to make the most of every hour.
- It gives you peace of mind. You know exactly what you need to do and when. And what periods of time you have “free”. This helps with not overscheduling.
- It gives you a sense of discipline. When you are feeling unmotivated, it helps you understand what you need to get done so that you can complete it and move on (or rest!)
