The Business Strategy That Led to a 5-Figure Email

If there’s one topic that I can talk about endlessly—and it's one I’m truly passionate about—it’s business strategy. I know for many of my clients, breaking down and understanding a strategy is a game-changer for their business, so grab a pen and paper because this is a tactic you can implement today.

Why Business Strategy Isn’t Just One Thing

In my role as a small business strategist, I often see people chasing isolated tactics without looking at the big picture. A solid business growth strategy framework isn’t about finding a single winning move; it’s about creating a strategic circle where each part works cohesively. This is especially true in the world of digital marketing, where platforms like Instagram may not drive the sales they once did.

Take a moment to think about the last time you bought something significant from someone you found on social media. It’s rare, right? Maybe you’re like me, and you need more connection and information before making a purchase. Today’s consumers tend to research, learn, and build trust with a brand before taking action. That’s why my approach is all about multi-layered engagement—making sure each part of your business strategy works together for sustainable success.

The Business Strategy That Led to a 5-Figure Email

Let me give you an example from my own business that illustrates this point. Recently, we had a big launch for our Anti-Social School program, and we generated five figures from one email. But it’s important to understand that the success of this email wasn’t random; it was built on a strategy designed to connect, nurture, and convert.

Here’s how it worked:

  1. Creating a Relationship Foundation:
If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve listened to my podcast or joined one of my workshops. I want people to get a feel for my teaching style, learn about my life, and understand my values. I share openly, whether it’s about my love for chai tea or the fun I have with my twin girls. This lets potential clients know they’re connecting with a real person.

  2. Building Strong Systems:
My role as a business strategy specialist isn’t just to attract people but to set up systems that nurture those relationships. That includes free resources, a structured funnel, and tailored content. Each part of this strategy and entrepreneurship approach helps guide new clients through the decision-making process.

  3. Engaging Through Live Events:
We host live events at least once a quarter. This could be a workshop, a live training, or even a networking event. These events allow potential clients to experience the value of my services firsthand, which is crucial for long-term client relationships.

  4. Leveraging Personalized Emails:
Finally, we reach out through email, but we don’t rely solely on automation. While we do send automated emails, sometimes we add a personal touch to make clients feel truly seen. The one email that brought in 5-figures wasn’t just automated content; it was a personal, handwritten note sent directly from me.

The Email That Converted

Here’s what that email looked like:

Subject Line: Not an Automated Email 😊

Body:

Hey [Name],

I saw that you attended our Ditch the Social Drama workshop but haven’t yet joined Anti-Social School. Is there anything I can do to support your decision? This isn’t an automated message—it’s just me here, behind the scenes, genuinely wanting to help.

Let me know how I can assist.

Best,
Holly

Why did this work? Because it was unexpected and authentic. It was a direct invitation for them to engage with me on a personal level. It reminded them that I’m a real person and gave them a safe space to ask questions.

A Business Growth Strategy Framework Built on Human Connection

The reason this email worked is because it was the final piece of a broader strategy. I could have automated everything, but the human touch was what closed the deal. Sometimes, we forget that successful business growth strategies need more than automation—they need genuine human connection.

When you’re building your business strategy, remember that there’s a difference between business strategy and brand strategy. Brand strategy focuses on perception, while business strategy is about creating a path for sustained growth. By integrating the two, you can create a balanced approach that resonates with potential clients and drives consistent results.

How to Implement This in Your Business

If you’re ready to take your strategy to the next level, here are some actionable steps to get started:

  1. Develop Your Relationship-Building Content:
What channels are you using to create meaningful connections? Think about the mediums that allow your audience to know the real you, whether it’s a podcast, blog, or YouTube channel.

  2. Create a Multi-Touch Strategy:
Plan out the different ways potential clients can interact with you. For example, could they attend a workshop, download a guide, or listen to a private podcast? Each step should bring them closer to your brand.

  3. Incorporate Personalized Outreach:
Automation is efficient, but personal outreach is powerful. Consider sending handwritten emails or personalized messages to potential clients. Ask if there’s anything they need to make a decision—this small touch can make a big impact.

  4. Assess Your Business Growth Strategy Framework:
Is each part of your strategy working together? Are your content, live events, and email sequences aligned? Having a cohesive framework ensures that each part of your business complements the other, creating a stronger impact overall.

  5. Remember the Value of Human Connection:
Your audience doesn’t just want information; they want to feel understood. The best small business strategists know how to blend strategy with empathy to build long-lasting relationships.

Embrace a New Approach to Success

This pep talk isn’t just about an email that converted. It’s about looking at business success through a new lens. Revenue is important, but the real win is when you can grow your business in a way that aligns with your life and values. At the end of the day, success is about creating a business that serves you just as much as it serves your clients.

So, what will you do differently today? As you think about your own strategy and entrepreneurship goals, remember that every part of your strategy should work in harmony. And sometimes, the simplest approach—like sending a personalized email—can be the most powerful tool in your business strategy toolkit.
