Mastermind Magic: How to Thrive Without Selling

blog building your funnel business strategy business systems business tips for entrepreneurs engagement strategy May 28, 2024
business strategist for female entrepreneurs Holly Haynes

I’m thrilled to share something completely new and exciting! We’re bringing you live client interviews from a recent workshop. This unique approach answers a question I hear all the time as a business strategist for female entreprenuers: "If you hate selling, try doing this instead." If you’re like most of us, you’d rather people just magically appear in your inbox ready to purchase, right? I call those unicorn clients. And while unicorns might be rare, the strategy I teach can make sales without awkward sales calls a reality. Here's how we do it.

If you hate selling, do this.

1. Embrace the Antisocial Strategy

First, we focus on what I call the antisocial strategy. This is about leveraging email and non-social channels to work for you. If you haven’t yet downloaded the framework for this, you can grab it for free here. This strategy helps you engage with your audience without relying heavily on social media, making it ideal for those who prefer more direct communication methods.

2. Leverage Relationship Marketing

Next, we layer on relationship marketing. This involves a consistent networking strategy—be it weekly or daily—that fuels your business through genuine connections. Think of this as actual networking, attending community events, and digging into referrals, client testimonials, and case studies. This approach builds a strong network and client base without the need for hard selling.

Today, I want you to hear firsthand how we implement these strategies. You’ll meet our collective mastermind community, and through their experiences, you’ll see how relationship marketing can lead to real profits. Unlike traditional sales methods, our approach focuses on showcasing results and building trust.

Real-Life Success Stories

Let’s dive into some real-life examples. I had the pleasure of interviewing six of our students, both current and alumni, in a live session. These interviews were done in a casual, unscripted manner, giving you a genuine glimpse into their journeys. Let's dive in!

Meet Jenny

Jenny has been with our mastermind the longest. She’s a style teacher with a membership program for women who want to feel their best in their clothes. Jenny’s business has evolved significantly since we started working together. She’s built capsule wardrobes and transformed her online presence with systems and marketing plans.

When asked why she keeps coming back, Jenny emphasized the deep understanding and personal attention she receives. She values the community and the network she’s built through our program. Her business has grown into a sustainable online venture, all thanks to the strategies we’ve implemented together.

Meet Karalee

Karalee’s story is a testament to the power of transformation. Initially hired as an executive assistant (you can learn more about that here), Karalee attended our antisocial school and had an epiphany about her business model. Within two weeks, she revamped her client roster and joined our mastermind. Now, she helps streamline operations for solopreneurs and six-figure CEOs, including myself.

Karalee shared how our mastermind differs from others she’s joined. The one-on-one support and practical resources have been game-changers for her. Since joining, Karalee has consistently made over $5,000 monthly, a milestone she hadn’t achieved in her five years of business prior to this year.

Meet Natalie

Natalie, a publicity and PR coach for health and wellness experts, joined our mastermind in January. She’s an expert at getting clients into the press and has an impressive background in PR, including writing three books. For Natalie, the mastermind provided the focus she needed to channel her creative energy effectively.

Her advice to those considering the mastermind? Know what you want to achieve but be open to the journey it takes you on. The structured support and community have helped her overcome challenges and maintain focus on her goals.

Meet Nadine

Nadine is a female business strategist for bridal seamstresses and owns a successful brick-and-mortar shop. Like Jenny, Nadine transitioned from a teaching background and grew her business rapidly. She now runs a membership program and organizes highly successful retreats for seamstresses.

Nadine’s experience highlights the customized support we provide. Despite knowing her niche and message, she benefited from refining the behind-the-scenes processes that were holding her back. Our mastermind helped her streamline operations and focus on growth.

Meet Tiffany

Tiffany, a fractional COO and operations director, emphasizes the importance of leveraging a supportive network. She attributes much of her success to the resources and accountability provided by a mastermind group. She didn't realize the wealth of resources that would come with it. She has had coaches and joined clubs before, but this was different. For example, Jenny's email templates have been a lifesaver since Tiffany despises writing emails and content, so having these templates has been incredibly helpful. The accountability factor within the mastermind has been another game-changer. Despite managing multi-million dollar projects in her corporate career, she struggled to project manage herself. The group's support in keeping her accountable has been invaluable.

Unexpected Opportunities and Immediate Support

Within a few weeks of joining the mastermind, Tiffany shares that she had an opportunity to pitch a proposal to a multi-million dollar company. After initially fumbling around with Canva, unsure of what she was doing, a quick message to Holly resulted in her providing Tiffany with examples and guidance that significantly elevated her proposal. I needed to present at a high level, and Holly's support helped her achieve that.

The Investment and The Retreat

Here is what Tiffany had to say about the investment of the mastermind and the retreat"

"Joining the mastermind was an investment, and I had a conversation with my husband about it. Unlike others who built their side businesses while still in corporate, I had left my corporate job, so there was no income coming in. However, the investment paid off. Attending the retreat in Austin was a pivotal experience. It wasn't just about learning; it was about building relationships with other participants and alumni, and gaining clarity on where my business needed to pivot.

One surprising benefit of the retreat was that all the meals were included. I wasn't expecting that level of hospitality, and it allowed me to fully immerse myself in the experience without worrying about logistics."

Meet Lori

Lori is a corporate leader and a mom of four who helps busy moms do it all without actually doing it all. She emphasized the focused time the retreats offer, which is crucial for her given her packed schedule. The connections made during the retreats are lasting and invaluable. Lori mentioned that the feedback received during personal hot seats is tailored and insightful, significantly aiding in her business planning and execution.

Meet Ashley

Ashley transitioned to full-time entrepreneurship after being laid off from her corporate job. She joined the mastermind while recovering from surgery and navigating a significant career change. For Ashley, the mastermind provided structure, accountability, and a comprehensive foundation for her business. The community and resources kept her moving forward, even during challenging times.

The Power of a Strong Network

1. Tap into Resources

One of the significant advantages of being part of a mastermind is access to valuable resources. Tiffany highlighted how email templates and content strategies provided by her mastermind saved her from tasks she despised. If you hate writing sales emails, having pre-made templates can make the process much easier and more efficient.

2. Accountability

Despite her extensive experience in project management, Tiffany found it challenging to manage her projects without external accountability. A mastermind group can offer the structure and support needed to stay on track. Regular check-ins and encouragement from peers can help you meet your goals without feeling overwhelmed.

3. Personalized Feedback

Mastermind groups offer personalized feedback and tailored advice. When you need to create a proposal for a multi-million dollar company, create a new offer, and find better ways to enjoy freedom while still attracting clients, turn to your mastermind group for guidance. They will provide examples and insights, demonstrating the value of collaborative problem-solving that I highlighted above.

4. Building Relationships

These experiences show that building strong relationships within a mastermind can lead to significant business opportunities. The connections made in these groups often result in long-term collaborations and mutual support.

5. Retreats and Focused Time

Attending retreats organized by the mastermind can provide focused time away from daily distractions to work on your business. These retreats are not just about learning but also about forming deeper connections and receiving intensive support.

6. Investment in Yourself

While joining a mastermind might seem like a substantial investment, the return on investment can be substantial. Tiffany’s story highlights how the right support network can accelerate business growth and provide clarity on your business direction. This investment in your development can pay off through increased confidence and business acumen.

7. Community Support

Being part of a community where members share their knowledge and resources can significantly reduce the feeling of isolation. Members benefit from shared resources, like presentation templates and business strategies, which streamline their workflow and boost their confidence in delivering high-quality work.

If selling isn't your strength, consider this.

If selling isn’t your strength, consider shifting your focus to relationship marketing and leveraging non-social channels. Let your results speak for themselves and build genuine connections. The success stories from our mastermind community illustrate how this approach can transform your business and make sales calls a thing of the past.
