The age-old question: How do I actually get people to do what I want them to do? *Insert actually buy from me.* In today's blog post, I am excited to share how we organically grew our email list and have built out our systems behind the scenes. But first, I want to invite you to do the same.
How to Build Your Email List Right Now
Let's get into something you can do right now to build your email list and in the end, have a funnel that works for you.
I want to just caveat this by saying that a lot of coaches teach this in a lot of different ways. My goal as a business owner was to figure out a way to grow my email and create systems that I could manage (i.e. I don't have a big team or a big list). So that is what I teach as our motto is to keep systems simple. I also want to say that not all launches and funnels have to be fancy. We all dream of the Amy Porterfield large launches and numbers, but you DO NOT need all of that to be successful.
With my clients, we actually call it "sloppy launching" which is probably not the best term but in school, my girls write drafts of their papers and assignments and call it "sloppy copies". Sometimes, you just need to put something out there and see how it goes. Especially in the beginning. Now I am not saying there shouldn't be a plan, but it doesn't have to be fancy with a 100-page checklist and million-dollar team if you get what I am saying.
How do you actually attract people to your list?
- Make sure you have one clear path for your audience to follow. I love a good freebie, but ask yourself: Does your audience know what you do? And how do you do it? I made the mistake at the beginning of my business to create one freebie a month and while it was super valuable, every time someone downloaded it, it went to no man's land. When you talk about what you do, it should be super clear. The next step of how to learn more from you should also be super clear.
- Think about your potential client's experience. Let's pretend they download this amazing freebie from you. What happens? Do they know how to use the resource? After they use the resource what happens? Before digging into all the fancy automations I find it helpful to just map it out. What do you want them to do? And then figure out how to do it.

- You have to talk about what you do. The 3rd and final step is probably the most important. If you don't talk about what you do, how will people know? Example. Everyone gets obsessed over their IG bio. And yes it is important, but most will not "click on the link" especially when your audience is small. So you have to talk about it. Link it in your stories. Take your freebie and talk about it in your posts. Share it over and over and over again. It used to take people 7 x to hear something before making a decision. Now it is something like 56 because SO much is happening online. Go all in on sharing how you can help them. And what resources you have. Don't assume that people just know. (They don't and if they did they will forget.)
