This week's blog is all about strategy and one I think you are going to love.
I share a lot of my
Anti-Social Strategy which basically is how to promote your business without social media.
One of the steps in the framework is having what I call a "home base" or someplace where you can nurture your clients who are offline. For us, we have a few: the
podcast, our blog (which recently got a big ole makeover), AND email.
Email is The New Cauliflower
I always say this year email is having a cauliflower moment. And totally making a comeback. In May of this year, we changed our entire email strategy. Did you catch it? I shared in another blog post our business strategy shift and
how it led to a 6-figure leap month, but today I want to dig into the email strategy we have been following to not only increase our profit but double our revenue.
The goal? Have more conversations. And not just DM back and forth how is your week going but being able to actually get to know you, your business, and more. I share this because the first part of the strategy is that when you think of email, you have to go into it with a goal. The goal should not be, "I am just going to write my email to check it off my list today"
What do you want your audience to know?
How are you educating them?
How are you serving them?
Make it SO valuable they can't help but want to read it every week.
With that said, we set out with a goal to send three emails a week. This is the breakdown:
#1 The Hand Raiser Email
The first email, which right now is usually a Sunday or a Monday, is what I call a "hand raiser". The whole goal is to start a conversation but to also deliver value. So you will see something like a free training, workshop, podcast playlist, educational resources, and then a question. The whole purpose of the question is to start a conversation. To get to know you.
The outcome? I have had over 521 conversations offline (yes I track them). Some are just for fun. Some lead to business, some don't. But I know you REALLY well. And I also know how I can help you more. How cool is that? Just write an email to prompt a conversation.
#2 Strategy Stack Email Series
The second email is our brand new "strategy stack" series. This is setup to be a one minute read and deliver 100% education. As in one step you can take this week to deliver your strategy. The result is more conversations. Giving me ideas for the podcast, future offerings, better emails, and ways to help you. Pretty cool, right? It feeds into the handraiser each week.
#3 Newsletter Email
And finally email #3 is what I call our newsletter, but no one likes newsletters these days. If you say "sign-up for my newsletter", no one is going to be like "Oh I want more emails in my inbox" but if you call it something valuable, boom. It's a great way to connect. Inside our Friday emails I share more personal stories and what is happening inside our community. The part everyone clicks on the most? Our binge-able links. I share everything from my favorite playlist to what I packed for our next vacation. It's personal.
That's it. 3 emails. The goal: Lots of education. A lot of value. And conversations with you.
And if you are reading and still not sold on emails and if they will work for you, noodle this:
- Email marketing has consistently shown a high ROI. According to the Data & Marketing Association (DMA) in 2020, the average ROI for email marketing was $42 for every $1 spent.
- Email is a powerful tool for customer retention. Repeat customers tend to spend more, and nurturing relationships through email can increase customer lifetime value. (Remember that 80/20 rule I always talk about?)
- Start to get fancy and segment your email list? According to a Campaign Monitor study, marketers who used segmented campaigns noted as much as a 760% increase in revenue.
Try the handraiser strategy. Create an educational email and then ask a question at the end. Start a conversation. You never know where it can lead. And I guarantee you will learn something about your ideal client and your business every time. Bonus, you'll start attracting the right clients with the right conversations.
