The most popular question I have gotten as a business strategist for female entrepreneurs in our community lately is "Holly, how do you create so much content?" My answer: repurpose. Most of the content I share is not new and 95% is repurposed from somewhere else. This means I can create a week's worth of Instagram content in about 30 minutes and never truly have to log onto social. Pretty amazing right?
But also, if you lost your social media pages today, as in 100% gone, could you still generate leads and sign clients? The answer needs to be yes.
My Instagram Content Formula
I share the whole framework at
www.hollymariehaynes.com/social in a 5-episode podcast series, and even if you have already listened, we added some new bonus episodes.
But today, I want to give you my Instagram content formula. While we do use social, it's pretty automated and I am not online more than 20-30 minutes a day. Most of that time is answering messages.
Here's your formula.
Step 1: Pick your theme for the week.
What do you want your clients and customers to do? Download a freebie? Connect with you about working together? Prep them for a launch? Sell? What is your business goal? Write it down because everything you share this week is going to go back to that.
Step 2: Pick a home base.
Going back to what I teach in
Anti-Social School, pick a home base. (Hint this is usually email). This is where you can connect with clients offline. But also, pick one piece of content a week that is going to be long-form. (Hint - Also usually email). For me, it is
my podcast. We take an episode and break it into almost 10 different forms of content. If you don't have a podcast, write a blog, write an email, or write something that is educational and serves your audience in 2-3 paragraphs.
As a bonus, pause right now and write down when you are going to do this every week. I tend to write on Fridays and repurpose on Mondays, for example. For this to work you have to be consistent.
Step 3: Repurpose.
We are actually going to do this in two parts.
Part 1 - Create templates in Cavnva to use on social.
Right now I have 7-8 templates I cycle through.
- A quote template
- Static Photo
- Carousel Post (multiple slides)
- 2-3 Text with Photo
- Reel Cover
I think this part is fun if you like Canva. Now when you sit down to repurpose your email (because you wrote it according to schedule) to Instagram, you have templates ready to go. The goal is to switch up the pictures and the text and pull the caption from what you already wrote.
Part 2 of Repurposing is to follow a schedule.
Here is ours:
- Monday - Text with Photo (Educational post from podcast)
- Tuesday - Reel (featuring podcast guest)
- Wednesday - Text with Photo (Educational post from podcast)
- Thursday - Bonus Reel (if I make it) or Static Photo
- Friday - Carosel quote post (from the podcast)
- Saturday - Break
- Sunday - Bonus Reel (if I make it) or Static Photo
In this schedule, everything except Thursday and Sunday are planned and repurposed. We use the podcast to create captions and use our templates to make the graphics. If I have extra time, I will share some personal stories on Thursday and Sunday, but business goes on if I don't.
The trick? Write long-form content one time a week.
Create a posting schedule you can follow. Consistency Trumps Talent. Follow through.
The icing on the cake is we take that podcast episode and in addition to using it on Instagram, repurpose it to Pinterest, Linked In, and email.
The possibilities are truly endless.

Life is better offline. Wouldn't you agree?
