At the time of writing this blog, we are about to head out for a six day trip to Texas. Every year in February I host a retreat for our
mastermind members that is out of town, and this year we are in Austin, Texas.
But let's dive behind the scenes and talk about the personal updates, because, let's face it, most of us started our businesses to enhance our personal lives and free up time.
Which brings me to the personal update. Our goal as a family is to travel once a quarter, but I also have a step-daughter who is 25 and lives in Austin. See what we did there?
I thought the best way to give this update and in typical Enneagram 3 fashion was to do categories. If you have our
Crush the Rush Quarterly planner (I do love quarters), that is exactly how we do it.
First: Personal
Turning 45 this month feels liberating. Embracing odd numbers and the joy of stepping into my 40s—where prioritizing personal care, therapy, yoga, and nurturing friendships takes center stage. I talk to my best friend on the phone, yes the actual phone almost every week and we Voxer almost every day. I have an amazing support system of biz besties here in Columbus that I cannot imagine not doing life with. I also started my business during this decade! Life in my 40s is vibrant and fulfilling.
I also think your 40s are the era to freaking have more fun. My 20s were heads down corporate, working 50-60 hours a week. My 30s were twins. I mean two babies at one time definitely will take priority. And my 40s have been really stepping into me.
Second: Family
Navigating the pre-teen years with my 10-year-old twins brings a blend of slime and iPads. Implementing family reading time, breaking the gaming system tradition, and planning a 45th birthday trip to Europe intertwine the realms of personal and family bliss.
We implemented 20 minutes of reading a day as a family which was honestly selfishly a way for me to finally finish the Court of Throne and Roses series (I am on the last book) but has been so fun to do it together.
Introducing a new private podcast series that’s just for you if you’re sick of all the Instagram BS! (or insert social channel of your choice). You can build a business without being a slave to the social engine. Grab the free series.
And where personal and family come together is when we planned a 45th birthday trip to France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany this spring. Which means a full two weeks offline.
Which leads to #3, business.
Third: Business
This year, it's all about slowing down to speed up. Scaling took precedence last year; now, it's refining programs, elevating client experiences, and perfecting automation. Oh the flow charts I have created in the last few weeks. Less but better—focusing on our family mission of quality time and helping you design your dream schedule.
Honestly, let's just make business more fun. When you control your time, you control the outcome.
Managing it all
How do I manage it all? Two mantras: "If it's not a heck yes, it's a no," and simplifying tasks by asking, "How do you want to feel?" It's not a one-size-fits-all answer, but these mantras guide me through the chaos.
This blog isn't your typical strategy session; it's a glimpse into the layers of life, therapy-led love for my 40s, the joy of travel, and the excitement of making your client experience extraordinary this year. Because, in the end, it's about making business more fun, controlling your time, and ultimately, controlling the outcome.
